Min, (Short for Minerva, Goddess of Wisdom), is a movie loving, ‘whatnot’ saying girl who begins this story by dropping off a box at Ed Slaterton’s house with a THUNK! Within this box lays their relationship from start to finish, each item a part of their journey, and the words on the pages are the extended letter Min encloses within the box, telling the story of why they broke up.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book, the actual release date being tomorrow (6th August), so I finished it just in time.
Chris Colfer, Glee’s Kurt Hummel, released his debut book on July 17th. It is a middle grade book that acts as a modern retelling of classical fairy tales including Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella. But it offers so much more than that…
All he’d ever wanted was for nothing to ever change. Or for things to change only in the right ways, improving little by little, day by day, forever.
— Chad Harbach, The Art of Fielding
LOVE IT! :D

I’d never seen anyone looking so perfect. Call it a cliché, call me stupid or pathetic or whatever you want, but he was perfect. The setting sun hits him just right, the orange glow on his charcoal suit softening him. That tiny amount of stubble on his chin was still there. I remember hoping that it was an accident because he looked like a bit of a scruffy twat.
“You missed a spot.” My voice strained a little, practically choking on the words. I took hold of the tiny green star pendant hanging around my neck, moving the cold metal around my moist palm. Breathe.
He looked over at me with that little glint in his eye, almost like he missed me. I’m just seeing things. He’s not marrying me. I have to remember that.
Think about the things that you want from a book. An engaging story? Characters you can connect with? Good writing? A book that ticks all the boxes is a rare find and The Hunger Games does just that and more.
Suzanne Collins has found, in her protagonist Katniss Everdeen, a voice that transcends gender and leads us so confidently through a dystopian society that you can practically feel the oppression of the Capitol.
The first person perspective of Katniss is both engaging and fascinating before, during and after the bloodbath that is the Seventy Fourth annual Hunger Games. The range of colourful characters she meets are refreshing and her interactions with them are at times touching and occasionally amusing.
If you are looking for a book that will leave you hungry for more, look no further. I’ve been waiting for a book to grip me like this and my search is over.
Go forth and read it.
May the odds be ever in your favour…
Everyone listen to George talk. I like listening to him talk. Don’t question me.
